The Gift of Ghostwriting (for Busy Executives and People Who Hate Writing)

Whether writing comes naturally to you or not, it takes time, focus, energy, and inspiration. The physical and mental energy can be taxing—even for professional writers and well-known book authors.

Do you ever dread writing tasks? If you answered “yes,” I feel your pain.

Clients regularly tell me the multiple tasks and responsibilities they perform each day are overwhelming. So when it comes to writing, they rarely have a chance to sit down in a quiet place to organize their thoughts without interruptions. This scenario makes it hard to pull together a draft, let alone produce your best writing.

  • Are you swamped just trying to get through your to-do list and putting out “fires”?

  • Do check-ins and meetings with your key staff, clients and prospects, partners, board members, and other stakeholders take much longer than you anticipate?

  • Is your company experiencing significant growth and staff expansion that requires a big investment of your time?

  • Do you skip lunch regularly and take work home to stay on top of your responsibilities?

If any of these apply, a blank computer screen is likely the last thing you want to face at the end of the day. Yet, the more you push writing to the side, the bigger a mountain it becomes.

This is where I can step in and ease your way. As your ghostwriter, I collaborate with you to develop a timeline to create the writing product you need—to your specifications. Whether it’s interviews, articles, opinion pieces, official letters, or something else.

My Approach to Working with You

Top priority is to make sure that any piece I write for you sounds like you. Good writing is the best version of how you speak. Authenticity is everything. To capture your “voice,” I review printed products you’ve completed in the past.

I can also delve into other media materials you share with me. What better way to glean your sense of humor and style than listening to online podcasts, interviews, or speeches? A little time invested here goes a long way in making sure I mirror your voice.

I schedule a brief online call for a couple reasons:

  • To bring to life your style and personality.

  • To solidify my understanding of the primary goal, tone, and message you want to convey and your target audience for the writing you need.

You can supplement this call with a written brain dump of information you want to include.

Before I hand you a written draft, I walk away from it so I can get some distance.

Then I put on my editor’s hat to check for the following:

  • Is the writing organized, logical, and concise in all places?

  • Are the stated purpose, tone, and messages discussed in our initial meeting clearly conveyed?

  • Is the writing rhythmic? A mix of long, medium, and short sentences makes the prose sing and grabs the attention of your readers!

  • Is anything missing?

  • After your review and feedback, I revise the writing to your complete satisfaction.
